Make An Assessment: The Strange Month of September
September is an in-between month. not only in-between August and October, in the southern hemisphere at least, it lies in-between seasons, auguring the uncertain spring, and whispering the dying winter. This climactic crossroads offers the everydayphotoplayer portraits of pastel skies, sublime slivers of sunlight, painterly photos like watercolours, and capturing this quality is my criteria for assessment in the month of September:

Make an Assessment: August
Douglas is a very good writer; he has an HD average at uni. But what that average conceals is that Douglas is crap at deadlines. He handed in more essays late than on time. He treated the due date as a suggestion rather than a reality. He took the winding garden path rather than the direct route. So when, back at the end of August, we asked him to be our very first judge in this here Make an Assessment section, I knew it would take a little time for him to get it to us.
But I didn't think he'd take this long!
Make an Assessment has been brought in to get some outside perspective and to raise the stakes a little. Each month will be assessed by a guest judge by a method they choose. They can be as brutal or gentle as they like, diplomatic or flagrantly biased. Douglas was so late that I ended up telling him to email me a list of the ones he has been thinking about. Hey, it's a unique method. I thought it would be more thoughtful, perhaps with something interesting to say, but technically he got it in. (I, however, am NOT giving him an HD. He has to try harder for my marks!)
So here it is according to Doug:
Top 3 in no particular order are 'That crow stole my orange!", 'Insecurity posse!' and 'Call me!'
Overall winner: 'Insecurity posse!' "for pure cinematic joy and cultural incongruity."
